Charisma. The word itself is enough to make anyone sit up and take notice. It is no wonder then that people who possess charisma are constantly in the limelight. So, what is charisma and can it be developed? More and more people today are keen on learning how they can shine in a crowd, how they can be unique and noticeable and how they can get charisma. Charisma is a trait of leaders, not followers. It is distinguished by a sense of uniqueness and differentness that only few have and others can dream about.

The world revolves on the basis of how people perceive each other and like each other. Charisma is a powerful tool because it helps a person influence and gain considerable power over others. You don’t have to exploit this upper hand, just use it to your benefit, or even to others. The first key is to make others feel respected and important. The easiest way to do so is to remember people’s names. It also shows that you’ve been paying attention and you find them interesting, which then makes them feel important.

Be a good listener. This cannot be emphasized enough. Not only do you have to give other people a chance to talk, you also have to listen to what they have to say. Whether they’re discussing their kids and their pet, or telling you about their dreams, make sure you pay attention. You can pick up little clues about the person, their likes and dislikes, what makes them tick and such tiny nuggets can be priceless when the time is right. Always take an interest in people and make them feel cared for. You know you’d like it in return.

Be helpful. Resourcefulness and willingness to aid, and also lead, is a key element of charisma. Show people that you care and you are more than happy to make an effort that would help them in some manner. Not only will you win friends this way, it will also help you grow as a person!
